There are some things you want to do prior to coming in to visit us. Here are some first aid steps you may find helpful.
First-Aid: Tooth Loss
- Pick Up Your Tooth. If your tooth is completely knocked out of your mouth, the first step is to pick it up carefully. This means, do NOT hold it by the root, as it is very sensitive and may damage the tooth beyond repair.
- Clean Your Mouth and the Tooth. It is important to clean both your mouth and your tooth. For the tooth, gently run it under cold water. Do NOT scrub or scrape the tooth. Rinse until the last of the dirt and grit has been washed away. For your mouth, rinse with warm water to wash away any debris.
- Try to Insert Into the Socket. Try to put the tooth back into the socket. If you can’t, or find it too uncomfortable, you can place the tooth into a cup of milk, for protection.
- Call Us Right Away! It is important to get treatment for your tooth quickly, ideally in under 30 minutes. Don’t hesitate to call us and come into our office!
